First hand researches – interview

這天我們親身到深水埗跟二手地攤檔的店主做訪問。

我們總共訪問了4間不同類型的的二手地攤 。先說說我們已擬定的問題。

  1. 為什麼要買二手貨呢 ?
  2. 為什麼要選擇此類型/種類的貨物來售賣呢? 是否與客源/喜好等有關?
  3. 客人多數是什麼類型的人呢? i.e.年齡,性別,職業等
  4. 入這些二手貨的形式/過程是怎樣的呢? i.e 入貨的時間
  5. 在入貨的時候怎樣去鑑定該貨的真偽?
  6. 最「寶」最「貴重」的貨物是? 最「草」又是?
  7. 如何重新定貨這些「寶」?
  8. 為什麼要放在地上售賣? 是要營造一種獨特的賣買形式和味道嗎 ?
  9. 如果收藏買回來的「寶」?
  10. 二手檔是一代傳一代嗎? 又或隨經手人不同, 賣的貨也會不同嗎?
  11. 有街坊以物換物的形式來換取貨物嗎 ? 是因為環保/ 其他原因?

1.      然後, 我們到了一家專賣「二手煲」的店舖。
店主是個男的, 他跟我們說留在深水埗的原因是因為這個範圍是政府規劃出來的, 比較便宜, 而且集中在同一區, 客源較多。

而我們在訪問他時也發現了一些鮮為人知的秘密。
第一 他所賣的那些「二手煲」要由他親手「翻新」一下才能拿出來售賣 ! 這是他所強調的。
在地攤檔後一點的位置,我地可以看見有數個我們相信是一起與店主經營這地攤的朋友在用力的「省」一些大大小小的煲和煲蓋,經他們「加工」後,很多煲都像新的一樣!
第二 在我們訪問時, 恰巧有客人光顧, 客人是個主婦, 她看中了一個「二手煲」但卻覺得價錢不太合宜, 所以就不停的「講價」
但男店主一直堅持不肯降價。 我們很好奇為什麼店主「有生意都唔做」, 他就我們說: 「其實我們只會賺成本價的20-30% 如果再降價,便不能再回本,所以不會再降價了。」

Through our interview, we find this shop which specialize selling wok and we use the shop as our topic.

As u see, the wok are just all display on the street, there is a worker cleaning the wok after collected.

Group review:
This is our second interview. We are surprised that this shop would renovate all the pots before sell to the customers. This shows that they are really respect to the customers and really working hard on their job to maintain their daily life. Moreover, before interview this shop, we think that all the price of secondary goods can be bargained by the customers, however we are wrong. The hawker just keep the price he has set. We believe that the booths is so important to them to get the enough income to live.

 

 

Design concept &sketch of idea development:

Concept 1 – scratchgame

For the initial concept,we were suggested to think more about the action ‘wipping the pot”. After the serval ideas development, there was a concept that we found it interesting which was the scratchgame. There would be a pack of scratch cards. And we would like the audiences to play and enjoy the process of scratching. Unfortunately, we couldn’t think of the content on the card after scratching.

Concept 2 – create the dometic stuffs by the pot-cleaning materials

There was the second development, from the action of wipping pot, the cleaning materials are related to it. Also, base on the difficulty living in SSP, we came up that it is obviously that the seller at the pots-shop.is living a hard life by only selling the low-quality/second-hand pots.

So their living environment had been concerned this time. We combined the cleaning material and their poor living environment in SSP.

As the draft, we decided to create the dometic stuffs by the pot-cleaning materials.

 

Concept 3 (final concept)

– The scratching card+ the poor living environment in SSP = a scratchable house.

After the second development, we had a mind of conbining both first & second ideas into the most spectacular and interactable piece. The scratching card+ the poor living environment in SSP = a scratchable house.

 


We are going to coat a dark material on the furnitures in the house for the covering porpose. Without the cost, there will be some words. You know every furniture has its porice, so we considered to have a transformation of the value/price expression of the furniture.  The term of it becomes the quantities of how many pots selling in order to buy that furniture.

After scratching off the dark coat on a furniture(like below). The its pot-value will be shown from the uncoated part of table gradually.

Behind a house, the pot-seller has to undergo many steps for earning money to buy every basic stuffs at home. Therefore, We took a step of “cleaning the pot” to develop our idea.

From this interactive art piece, the audiences can experience the physical labour during the scratching action. By this action, we hope that the audiences can be more understanding what a hard life of the pot-seller.
